The nationwide campaign of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism “Environment and Culture “ for the years 2010-2011 had been focused on the theme of water. The title “Myriads of water voices” is an allusion to the poetry of the nobelist Odysseus Elytis.
The 38th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities participated in the annual campaign of 2011 with the educational programme ”Pamisos the divine river of Messenia”. The programme was inspired by the exhibits from the sanctuary of Pamisos. It was designed for children, teenagers and families. Since 2011 the programme is regularly being held in the Archaeological Museum of Messenia. Its objective is to encourage the participators to experience and enjoy various activities. Through learning about the mythology of Pamisos -river, its cult as god-healer and protector in ancient times, the participators discover the natural and historical environment of Messenia and they create their own stories and their own artistic works about Pamisos.
